Familial bonds might be the closest, but fraternal organizations also offer their members brotherhood by admitting them into secret societies with their own traditions, Greek letters, and handshakes. Before you join an association of brotherhood, you will want to make sure that the organization represents your beliefs and give you the opportunity to do things that you enjoy instead of just wearing Greek letters that show your affiliation. When you contact the societies, you should find out what type of order they are. Some of them are associated with a religion, governmental, or commercial association. If you are interested in joining a religious fraternity, then you should ask them what religion the members subscribe to. Ideally, they will share most of your beliefs and concerns so that you can work together and discuss your common interests. If you want to join a fraternity at a school, then they probably require a certain GPA and commitment to community service, so ask them what their requirements are. The fraternal organization should be able to offer you more than just brotherhood. They should also give you some benefits that will help you in your career and studies. Some of the fraternities are social, but others are academic. You might not meet with them regularly, but they will probably have regular meetings where you can congregate with other people who belong to the fraternity. You should be sure to ask the organization how much they charge to enter their association before you commit to join the society.
