Speak with the organization members about their efforts and mission, and whether there is a place for you in their organization. Find out if the consumer organization is part of a local or national entity, with any affiliations. Find out fees for information, Internet presence, locations, community information, debt and credit assistance, advocate services, and consumer rights information such as unsafe products, mandatory labeling on purchases, false advertising, insurance fraud, predatory lending, and pollution. Before committing to a national or local consumer organization or agency, keep in mind the organization’s location, mission, reputation in the industry, background, meeting schedules, research and studies, Internet web site features, free publications, legal advice, services, news, volunteer opportunities, and fees.
